Qwello UK became a certified Living Wage Employer, ensuring all employees, including contractors, are paid wages that meet the actual cost of living, promoting fairness and well-being.
Qwello UK has taken a significant step in its commitment to fair employment practices by becoming a certified Living Wage Employer. This underlines our dedication to ensuring that all its employees, including contractors and third-party workers, receive a wage that meets the real cost of living.
What Does It Mean to Be a Living Wage Employer?
The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually based on the actual cost of living in the UK. Unlike the government’s National Minimum Wage, the Living Wage is calculated according to the needs of workers and their families, factoring in rent, food, transportation, and other essential living costs.
By becoming a Living Wage Employer, Qwello UK is guaranteeing that all its employees are paid at least the Living Wage, which is currently £12.00 per hour in London and £11.00 per hour across the rest of the UK (as of 2024). This commitment extends not only to direct employees but also to contracted staff working on the company’s sites and projects.
The decision to become a Living Wage Employer aligns with our broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, which focuses on supporting its workforce and contributing to the communities in which it operates. This commitment to fair wages helps to reduce in-work poverty, foster employee well-being, and promote a more inclusive economy.
As we continue to expand our network of charging points across the UK, paying the Living Wage also means that more money is being circulated within local economies. Workers who earn a fair wage are more likely to spend within their communities, supporting local businesses and contributing to the overall economic health of the areas in which we operate.
Looking Ahead
As the demand for EV charging infrastructure continues to grow, so too does the need for skilled and motivated workers to build and maintain this critical network. By becoming a Living Wage Employer, Qwello UK is ensuring that it is well-positioned to meet these challenges while upholding its values of fairness, equality, and sustainability.
With this accreditation, Qwello UK reaffirms its commitment to not only driving the UK’s transition to electric vehicles but also to building a more just and equitable workplace for all its employees.
