After a pleasantly short planning and approval process, in close coordination with the local government, the first Qwello charging stations have been completed and are now operational in the Ostheim district of Nidderau. Qwello, an independent charging infrastructure operator in Germany and across Europe, is known for its reliable and well-designed charging stations. These stations feature built-in 11 kW charging cables, parking sensors to detect availability (even when a non-charging vehicle is blocking the spot), and the ability to start a charging session easily using an EC card, credit card, or Apple Pay, without prior registration.
Qwello charging stations are compatible with all major charging cards from well-known providers such as Mainova, Shell Recharge, TankE, DKV, BMW Charge, Mercedes me, AUDI Etron, Volkswagen ELLI, EnBW, ADAC, Plugsurfing, and over 200 other roaming partner cards. Additionally, the Qwello mobile app offers a reservation function that allows users to conveniently reserve a charging point for up to 15 minutes.
In addition to the charging stations in the Ostheim district, Qwello’s stations are now also available in the districts of Heldenbergen and Erbstadt.
Background information
The German government has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 65% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. Achieving this goal requires the rapid “electrification” of road transport, which in turn necessitates a comprehensive, demand-driven, and user-friendly charging infrastructure.
The increasing popularity of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids is reflected in the growing number of EV registrations in Germany. From January to March 2023, 94,736 electric cars were registered. In 2022, a record number of approximately 470,559 fully electric cars were newly registered, marking the highest figure to date.
As the share of electric vehicles continues to rise, so does the demand for public charging infrastructure. Following successful infrastructure projects in other German and European metropolitan areas, Qwello is excited to invest in the further expansion of public charging infrastructure, particularly in metropolitan regions.
