Carlos Carmona, who in 2021 worked at Etra—the company managing public lighting in Valencia—points out: “City councils are very protective of how they manage street lighting, which is not designed to be associated with a dynamic system like charging stations.”

He is now the commercial director of Qwello España, a company that has already installed 14,000 slow charging points across Europe—though not on streetlights—and 53 in Spain. He explains: “We design slow chargers (from 7 to 22 kilowatts) that are more efficient than streetlights. They feature a card payment system, a screen, dual connection points, and a retractable cable.”
