District opens first Tirschenreuth e-charging park

Tirschenreuth, Germany

February 12, 2024

Concrete plans for the construction and operation of charging points for electromobility have been underway in the district since 2022. The first charging park with six charging points has now been officially opened in the presence of District Administrator Roland Grillmeier and the district office staff involved in the project as well as the partner company Qwello.

‘It’s a good place to live’ is the slogan of the district of Tirschenreuth. In the future, this could also become ‘It’s good to charge’, as the still relatively low coverage of the district area with publicly accessible charging points for electric mobility is currently being significantly expanded by the district and its partner company Qwello from Munich/Frankfurt.

150 potential charging points were envisaged by the end of 2022 and the provider of 11 kW and 22 kW chargers was approached. In close consultation with climate protection manager Lukas Faltenbacher, who presented the various charging points to Qwello and checked their economic viability together with the company, around half of these charging points were subsequently deemed to be economically viable.

Network to be expanded further

Each location was then discussed within the municipal committees. As a first step, further charging points will now be installed in Reuth bei Erbendorf, Mitterteich, Waldsassen, Bad Neualbenreuth, Erbendorf, Wiesau, Falkenberg, Pechbrunn and Ebnath, with the other municipalities in the district to follow successively as soon as the necessary contracts have been concluded and the network connections have been clarified with the network operators. District Administrator Roland Grillmeier is pleased to have found a partner who will provide the infrastructure at no extra cost to the district and local authorities.

There are currently around two per cent electric vehicles in the district, and the necessary increase in this proportion must be met by expanding the infrastructure. After extensive detailed work and planning, the first significant progress has now been made.

Another premiere

Florin Oswald (Qwello) is thrilled about the opening of his company’s first six-charger location in Germany. “So far, we have only installed locations with a maximum of four charging points (at least in Germany). That’s why we are especially pleased that the first of what will hopefully be many six-charger locations has now been opened in this newly created, spacious parking area,” said the project manager of the provider, which operates approximately 1,500 charging stations across Europe.

Lukas Faltenbacher thanked the local authorities for their active support. ‘Without the numerous on-site appointments for site visits and the lively dialogue with the mayors and employees in the administrations, it would certainly not have been possible to set up charging points across the entire district in this form.’

A flexible offer

You can pay and charge at the charging points in almost any way imaginable. Credit card, debit card, smartphone, smartwatch, charging network card from other providers or Qwello’s own charging card. The charging points are also equipped with a cable so that users do not have to use their own cable and get it dirty, especially in winter. Qwello also offers an app with a reservation function for the charging stations.
