Democratizing electric vehicle charging: the pending issue in a Spain where 70% of cars are parked on the street

Madrid, Spain

“Either we can provide a charging solution to 70% of the population, or they will continue to be excluded,” says Carlos Vázquez, general manager of Qwello España, a company that has already installed thousands of charging points.

Carlos Vázquez works for a company that aims to democratize access to car chargers and lower the cost of recharging . He argues that “where we believe they are most needed is precisely in the poorest neighborhoods or in those areas of the city where a higher percentage of the population lacks the luxury of owning a parking space.”

Carlos is the managing director of Qwello España, part of a multinational company that has already installed thousands of charging points in Germany and the Netherlands , such as the 40 already installed at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. “The problem is that in Spain , 70% of vehicles are parked on the street ,” the expert comments, adding that “either we are able to provide a charging solution to 70% of the population, or those people will continue to be out of reach.”
